The Dr. Marvin Zuidema Award is presented in honor of longtime men's soccer coach and athletic administrator at Calvin College. The recipient is to be a senior chosen for his contributions to team play, leadership qualities, demonstration of ethical virtues and excellence in athletics and academics.

Senior Matt Thelen, a four-year starter in the goal for Calvin men's soccer, is the first player from Calvin to receive this award. This fall, he recorded a goals-against-average for 1.23 while tallying 79 saves. Thelen carries a 3.2 grade point average as a mechanical engineering major and will enlist in the U.S. Navy after graduating.
