Senate Corner
It is brochure days at Calvin College and I hope you can take a break from the many studies to notice them. For the next two weeks, take every possible chance you can to experience the college as it is advertised - sun shining, plants blooming, beauty booming. Ask Dave Warners for a phrenology lab to help you notice spring if you really cannot detach yourself from studies.
Student Senate just wrapped up the first annual student-faculty quiz bowl tournament. It appears the students still have something to learn from their elders. The faculty won the Tiki Torch of Knowledge with its Fuel of Knowledge by a fairly commanding 490 to 275. However, the students handedly smashed the faculty in the third round (this is the unbiased opinion), but unfortunately the battle victory was too little, too late. One might also consider that had the match been extended, the faculty would surely have lost, for knee and back problems would begin to swell, the temperature would become unbearable (either too cold or too hot), and finally, each would drop off to sleep already up way past their bedtimes. Unfortunately, the match came to halt. The faculty were saved by the bell. Of that I am sure.
Senator Brandon Hunt has diligently looked into establishing an Art Gallery in the Fish House, and it looks like he will come through. They have, as I recall it, about 20 feet on one wall and 16 feet on other - space for approximately nine pieces. Lights will be put in place to highlight the artwork. If you do art or appreciate art or think you should appreciate art, send a thank you along to Senator Hunt for his work: the Art Gallery is coming soon.
Elections are today. Please review who is running for senator positions and vote through KnightVision. There is a link under the Announcements in KnightVision for the Senator Elections just like the one for Executive Elections. Click yes to ``would you like to take a survey'' and then choose your favorite senators on the page that opens.
The Constitution has been thoroughly revised so as to be thoroughly readable. While still being a lengthy document more suited for the biceps than the brain, it has been considerably reduced through the simple elimination of redundancy and wordiness (unlike this article). It might be used now. That is good news.
As always, if you have any report, any comment, any suggestion for the betterment of Calvin College in any way relating to any thing that relates to you, please email us at senate@calvin.edu. We have no other purpose in life but to serve you, and if you give us no way of serving you than we find our lives dry and barren, boring and filled with nothing but a gigantic sigh. We do not like to be so filled. Email us.
Peace be with you all. Enjoy Calvin's beautiful campus while ye may.
