| Senate Corner
take my hand and walk with me
and tell me who you love
make a wish if you can see
the first star from above
you ever feel so deep and lost
somewhere in the past
and is it wrong to not hold on
if nothing ever lasts
Welcome back to the Student Senate corner! Perhaps some of you are nearing the end of a great interim thinking about Tolkein, Gender and Rock and Roll, or teaching English as a foreign language.
Regardless of your class, you have probably had a chance to relax a bit.
Student Senate has been working hard and seeing some of our efforts come to fruition. Read on to see what we have been doing…
First, after a glitch with discount cards, we have finally received them.
You can find small displays by the condiments in Johnny’s, at the Fish House, in the Book store, Commons Annex (by the Chimes stand), Student Development (in Common’s Annex), Student Life (in Spoelhof Center), and our office.
There are many new discounts, and some of them are excellent.
So, please take a card and support our local community by frequenting these establishments (Four Friends Coffee Shop, Max and Erma’s, Pita House, and many more).
Second, we have been working on a mascot for Calvin sporting events. We were able to unveil “Cal the Knight” last Saturday at the Calvin Hope basketball game.
The purpose of a mascot is to encourage school spirit. So, look for Cal at other sporting events in the future.
Finally, the famous Student Senate Used Book Sale will be occurring once again.
Since it is homecoming week, the logistics of the sale will be a bit crunched.
Book drop off will take place Tuesday Feb. 4 from 8am-7pm in the Commons Lecture Hall. The sale will be Wednesday Feb. 5 from 7am- 5pm in the Commons Lecture Hall, and book pick up will be Thursday Feb. 6 from 7am- 5pm in the Commons Lecture Hall and Friday February 7 from 8am-5pm in the Student Senate Lounge.
Please note these dates and times in your planner. In addition, remember, all books not picked up by the end of the pick-up will become property of Student Senate.
If you have a conflict, talk to a member of the executive team and we can work something out.
Enjoy the waning days of interim, and if you are bored and you know the name and artist of the song of the week, email ssenate@calvin.edu and you will receive $5.
