Female runner in Hope meet
It is a well-known fact that cross country, that rugged, grueling sport, is strictly for male types, right? “Wrong,” says the newest member of the Ferris State College cross country team. Lynn Olsen, 18, attractive, and well-proportioned, made Michigan intercollegiate varsity cross country history by competing in the Hope College Invitational held in Holland Tuesday afternoon over the five mile Winding Creek course.

Calvin's ingenious pitching machines relieves exhausted Knight hurlers
Two years ago Calvin maintenance man Jack Betten and Mechanical Supervisor John Hoekstra witnessed a demonstration of a baseball pitching machine. After some careful planning and four weeks of actual construction, Betten and Hoekstra provided Calvin with its own version of the gadget. The operation of the machine is based on two rotating tires powered by a motor. A baseball placed between the two wheels is shot out toward the batter by the wheels’ rapid motion.
