The Web site contest is back! This year Abstraction, Calvin’s computer science club, will be putting on a personal web site contest. Anyone with a website can submit their URL to http://clubs.calvin.edu/abstract/forms/webdesign.php to have it judged.

According to the Abstraction Web site, “Abstraction provides students with resources related to computers and the Internet. We also serve as a connection for people in the computer science field, coordinate CS events and in general help those who have any questions or needs regarding computers.”

Matthew Koop, president of Abstraction said, “Basically, the contest is designed to encourage students to work on and develop Web sites for themselves, by doing this they will gain valuable Internet skills that employers find desirable. Not only that, but it allows them to showcase information about themselves or perhaps pictures they may want to share. The web is an amazing place to publish and we’re just trying to give people an extra push.”

Five prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third places, most creative and most informative websites. The judges are Professor Frank Speyers of the art department, Professor Jeremy Frens of the computer science department, and Calvin Web manager Luke Robinson from Alumni and Public Relations.

Once a person submits their URL to the above Internet address, that person can continue to update and change his or her Web site as desired. The judges will be simply using the URLs to go to the Web sites and view them.

The Web site is up and running beginning Friday, Feb. 7. All submissions must be presented by April 11 and the judging will be completed on April 21.

If any students have questions regarding this contest, they should contact So Hang Chan at schan35@calvin.edu, Carrie Rumph at cer2@calvin.edu or Abstraction http://clubs.calvin.edu/abstract.
