So where do the bleacher bums go when the bleachers sting of ice, once the seventh inning “Take me out to the ball game” has been hammed for the millionth time? You find them robbing the mint dish at the neighborhood pub, or falling between cushions with a stein in the right hand and a wing in the left. “Can’t I get some silence in this joint?! The game’s on!”
But the game’s over! It’s February. And the cruel joke of having to exchange the taunting and swearing of NFL Sundays for that upcoming Hallmark holiday only intensifies the sense of loss. No amount of stale “Fax me” or “Go babe” candies will ever change that. But go ahead, say “I love you” by giving your special someone the chocolate box with the surgeon general’s warning of obesity on it.
Now if she could only resurrect the football season for you, everything would be peachy. Or rosy. Don’t forget the dozen roses. Nothing says “Hi, I’m original” like a dozen roses. Now get a dozen chocolate roses and you’ve entered an entirely different level of commitment. Pearl, right? But for all those Romeos planning on scratching their own fanny on Valentine’s, the sports editors at Chimes have your back.
