Campus Safety Report


Monday 3/10

-At 10:25 a.m. a student in Bolt/Heyns/Timmer Residence Hall reported that on Sunday, 3/9, around 1 p.m. she had received two harassing phone calls. The information on the calls was turned over to the Telecommunications Department for further investigation.



-At 8:20 p.m. a student reported that at 12:30 a.m. on Tuesday, 2/18, she was involved in a two vehicle accident at the east entrance to the west parking lot. The student stated that at that time she exchanged names with the other driver and that the other driver stated she would pay the damages to the student’s vehicle. The student now stated that the other driver now refuses to pay the damages. The student stated that she was now going to report the accident to the Grand Rapids Police Department.



Tuesday 3/11

-At 10:10 a.m. Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance at the library entrance. A student had slipped on the stairs and had twisted her ankle. The victim was treated at the scene and assisted back to her residence hall room.



-At 10:05 p.m. Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Johnny’s Cafण. A student was having an asthma attack. A friend had gone to retrieve the victim’s inhaler. The inhaler was brought to the scene and the victim applied the inhaler. The victim was turned over to her parents who had arrived at the scene.



Wednesday 3/12

-At 5:35 p.m. a student reported that at 4:30 p.m. on today’s date he left a textbook in a study carrel in the Library. The student stated that when he returned to the carrel at 5 p.m. the textbook was missing.





Thursday 3/13

-At 1:00 p.m. a student reported that sometime on Tuesday, 3/4, someone took a calculator from his unlocked residence hall room in Bolt Hall.



Friday 3/14

-At 8:55 a.m. Campus Safety responded to a request for medical assistance in Kalsbeek Residence Hall. A student had fainted and roommates had requested an ambulance. The paramedics treated the victim at the scene.



-At 11:10 a.m. a student reported that sometime between Monday, 3/10, and today’s date someone took money from her backpack. The student stated that she normally has her backpack or leaves it in her residence hall room which is normally unlocked.



Saturday 3/22

-At 1:45 p.m. Campus Safety responded to a fire alarm in Theta/Epsilon Hall. The fire was caused by cooking left unattended in a kitchen of one of the third floor rooms. Smoke and fire damage was done to the cabinets and area surrounding the stove.



Sunday 3/23

-At 2:24 p.m. a student reported that a floppy disk was stuck in a PC in the computer room in Theta/Epsilon Residence Hall. The student stated that the eject button was missing from the machine he was using and several other PCs in the room. CIT was contacted and stated that this had been an ongoing problem for some time in that computer room.



Tuesday 3/25

-At 5:10 p.m. Campus Safety observed a vehicle stuck on the lawn east of the Prince Conference and Lodging Center. A high school student had attempted to drive around the closed roadway gate and his vehicle was now stuck on the newly seeded lawn. The operator of the vehicle was identified and agreed to pay for damages to the lawn.



Thursday 3/27

-At 11:45 p.m. a student reported that sometime between 10:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on today’s date a cell phone and several CD’s were taken from her residence hall room while she was in class.



Friday 3/28

-At 10:27 a.m. Campus Safety investigated a violation of the campus alcohol policy in the south PE parking lot. The information on the student involved was turned over to the Dean’s Office for further action.



Sunday 3/30

At 1 a.m. Campus Safety observed a vehicle driving recklessly on campus sidewalks and roadways. A license plate check showed the vehicle registered to an on campus student. The student’s RA stated that the student in question was away for a semester in Spain. The home residence of the student was contacted and a parent confirmed that another family member was currently using the vehicle. The situation was explained to the parent who agreed to handle the matter.
