Eastown HollyDay

Eastown welcomed this year’s holiday shopping season with its annual HollyDay celebration. According to the Eastown events calendar, “shopkeepers welcome you with holiday goodies and warm, personalized service.”

The event took place Saturday, Dec. 1, kicking off the month’s shopping rush and

the countdown to Christmas.

Businesses offered special deals around Eastown and decorations for the season added to the holiday atmosphere.

Team Volturna wins BizPlan Competition

The 2007 business plan competition wrapped up recently at Calvin. The five-person team, Volturna, won first place. Its plan centered around the development of a transmitter which sends various media from a laptop to a television via a wireless signal.

The students have made use of their cleverly engineered design not only in the BizPlan competition, but also to start a small business for electronic design. The prize money from the competition will go toward the business.

The contest was sponsored by Calvin alumnus Brett Logan, the founder of the competition; the Engineering Department; and the Enterprise Center. Planning has already begun for the competition next fall.
