In the News

The Environmental Stewardship Coalition (ESC) is a Chartered Calvin College Student Organization. The group's purpose is set out in its mission statement.

ESC holds weekly meetings (Tuesday 6:00pm, Commons Annex Lounge) with content ranging from news updates, discussion of current environmental issues, and planning upcoming ESC-sponsored events to visiting local sites of environmental interest and listening to knowledgable speakers.

ESC hosts a variety of events. Below are two examples from earlier this year:

ESC-ers picking up litter of the beach during the International Beach Clean-Up Day

ESC kicked off the 2004 year by participating in the international coastal cleanup day.
Annual Fall Bike Tune-Up and BBQ At the end of September, ESC offered free bike tune-ups to calvin students, faculty, and staff. This event was meant to promote alternative means of transportation to and from campus. About 75 bikes were tuned in one afternoon!

ESC is in full swing with many projects including selling CUPPS [Cannot Use Paper, Plastic, or Strofoam] mugs, taking a stand in the decisions for the new Wellness Center on campus (look for a petition near you!!), pubslishing our newsletter- the dirt, and getting improved recycling in the dorms, among other things. ESC's focus is determined by its student membership; come and let your voice be heard!
